When the 12m Rasta Colored PL Charger 2013 (Ch2) kite arrived from Traig I knew wouldn't use it in Florida until next winter. Bought it mainly for a trip to the cold water and big swells with nephew Josh and am so glad I did. Waddell Creek feeds down into the cold windy Pacific 20 miles North of Santa Cruz and 80 miles south of San Francisco. Over the eons of time the creek has dug a canyon that runs for miles back into the dry hot hot sun drenched hills. Ths canyon a mecca for hikers and mountain bikers creates a natural wind tunnel not unlike famous Columbia River Gorge in Oregon in the NW USA. In the spring the 50 degree water cools the air on the prevailing NW breeze that gets sucked up the canyon. While the wind blows all summer the colder the water as in the spring creates the best wind. Many pro surfers come up to kite from Santa Cruz in the big winds and rollers on strapless surfboards. For me it surpasses the North Shore of Maui, the Gorge in Oregon, the Keys in Florida, Hatteras and the Texas Bend....legendary USA kiting spots all....

Last Friday my nephew and I drove down from San Frn wondering at the flat Pacific all the way down with nary a white cap in sight....till we came over the bluff and saw the waist high swells and wind driven sea at Waddell. Wanting to have plenty of power to get through the heavy shore break I rigged the Ch2 15 in winds in the low 20's only to have have the wind ramp up to 25/30. This left me riding carefully with the depower strap halfway in. Wishing I had rigge the new Ch2 12, I didn't want to make the longish walk back to the car, but none the less enjoyed a great session on the Ch2 15. This kite shows all the best features of the Arc kite design....simple four line design, super stability plus great low end power and pop with the great float.

Today arrived at Waddell with a shoulder to head high swell, a tough shore break with the wind already blowing 26/30.....just the conditions I'd bought the Ch2 12 for. These conditions I would have normally rolled out my good ole modded V1 13.....my old favorite kite, but no more. The Ch2 12 has replaced the V1 13 as my new favorite. The Ch2 12 significantly faster than the V1 1 13 with in my estimation more grunt and pop. The Ch2 12 also considerably faster than its big brother the Ch2 15. Here I have to say I found the drop from the Ch2 15 to Ch2 10 too wide for me. Have used he Ch2 10 in winds gusting over 30 and it worked at the same time thinking it better to hold the Ch2 12 up to low 30 gusts, but have it also pull through the holes in a way that the Ch2 10 might not do. For me the few times a year the winds blow consistently 35 plus then I would use the Ch2 10. Writing this I realize riders weighing less than my 91 kg would use smaller kites. The same for riders on surfboards versus me on a TT using a seat harness.

In sum, am excited about the Ch2 12. Over seven or eight years of hard use the V1 13 skin has worn to the consistency of tissue paper and the zippers have begun to stick with some regularity. While I've splurged this you year on three new Ch2's 10m, 12m and 15m, I feel its money well spent. The fly better than the best Arc's of old and with luck they will show the longevity of the venerable V1 13 which still flies fine...

Merci Marc et oui ca me rappelle des souvenirs! Il est très bien ce CR et il semble bien que cette charger 2 ait les moyens de conquérir de nouveaux adeptes. Espérons qu'on en voit plus sur les spots!

ArcUser est LE forum pour les PL... et on y comprend à la marge de certains posts pourquoi il y a peu de Shops qui mettent autant d'acharnement à les vendre qu'ils ne le font des boudins ("Over seven or eight years of hard use the V1 13 "... )
Nota: pour connaitre des Venoms qui sortent quasi-quotidiennement depuis 7/8 ans, je me dis que ce rider de ArcUser n'a pas du prendre grand soin (euphémisme!) de ces ailes

Programme en vue: light wind en Speed3 12 plage basse, un peu plus d'air... hop, Charger 12... et quand il y aura plus d'air (25 noeuds), passage en Unity 8 ...
Vivement qu'il y ait de l'air pour essayer l'ex-jouet de Franc6 Tom ! J'ai trop hâte...

Amha ça fera pas doublon si tu as des usages différenciés pour profiter des différences de comportement, et ceci au-delà de la seule plage de vent...
La PL démarre tôt (du moins pour mon usage!)... Je n'ai eu quelques regrets qu'en dessous de 10/12 noeuds (ou 5/6 sur terre)... mais qui se sont vite calmés: ça m'évite les tentations d'aller loin avec la 12... et de passer ensuite quelques heures sur le reréglage (puis changement) du bridage...
Et avec l'argent de la Speed j'ai un nouveau Sup et une Pansh pour le très light
